Preserving Traditions, Nurturing Growth

Owned and operated by Jim & TobyLauren Burgess, this homestead in east-central Alberta offers a unique blend of boreal forest and aspen parkland, making it a perfect place to forage for wild plants and fungi, grow food and medicinal plants, and maintain the traditional food preservation methods from generations before.

 

We love sharing the inspiration, methods, and the fruits of our labour. Our desire is to help you live a holistic life, rich with community, nurturing and uplifting resources, and a focus on seasonality and self-sufficiency. ​​

ABOUT WILDHAVEN HILLS

Our desire is to help others find improved mental health through fostering the development of connection to nature, and appreciation of where our food and medicine comes from. We are passionate about changing the world through this work.

When not exploring the woods or growing, foraging and preserving things, TobyLauren is COO for an independent school authority. Jim runs the homestead during the week, including home educating the children, designing and executing meals from scratch, gardening, and harvesting food, and adding woodwork pieces to the shop.

Everything we do is based in the desire of helping you to become more fulfilled through a deeper connection to nature and others.

  • learn how to craft an herbal tea

  • get seeds to grow your own food and medicine

  • learn to forage for wild ingredients and how to use them 

  • purchase grown or foraged ingredients to add to what you have

  • purchase a ready-to-steep tea from our shop

  • collect unique home decor made with reclaimed, vintage materials

 

Whether through in-person workshops or online learning, or easily finding what you need in our online shop, we want to help you find fulfillment and enjoyment at every step of the way.
